Re: Rega Dudes
I used to have a Planar 2 turntable with Super Bias cartridge and liked it pretty well. Straightforward and nothing annoying about it. Good value. A little sensitive to placement, perhaps, and I can add that I do not have perfect pitch. Then I bought a Rega Elex integrated amp, because I happened to...

Re: Ask a designer
Why do American solid-state power amps tend to have much larger wattages than UK amps (as far as I have noticed)? Below Paul McGowan of PS Audio says something about why he prefers high wattage. ... High voltage also exists in solid state power amplifiers. A typical 200 watt per channel amp will hav...

Re: Neat.
I remember Neat had a following among Farlowe-era Exposure fans (although they warned against pairing the bigger speakers with the smaller amps).

Re: Turntable interconnect
thought you had to have a special phono cable on TT's Some people have a tonearm with a DIN contact (with five contact points) on it, and they need a "tonearm cable" with a DIN plug on the one end of it and a pair of RCA plugs plus a ground connection (five corresponding contact points in...

Technical error: Got private message not to me
I have received a private message from Lazmo to Andrew (not "private" in the sense "not to be revealed to others") in my inbox. My name does not follow after "To", but the message is there nonetheless. Just wanted to let you know.

Re: steel plates in speakers
Here's a speaker enclosure of something called Gibraltar (apparently interacting with some kind of special design inside):

Re: Independent HiFi Dealers
Decware, from the US: http://www.decware.com/newsite/homepage.html We have no distributors, no reps, don't do many audio shows, don't advertise, which results in products with no fluff. You buy a Decware product for $1000 you get $700 worth of top grade parts... buy a retail amplifier for the same p...

Re: Independent HiFi Dealers
It can be difficult to tell if someone sells online only, but I do think this speaker manufacturer (from the US) does: http://www.tektondesign.com. I haven't followed him lately, but his stuff used to be priced much lower than comparable models from others.

Re: Hifi Racks
There's a hifi person in the US by the name of Jim Smith, who is or acts like an expert on speaker positioning in particular. He has always said that "your audio rack" shouldn't be put between the speakers (including behind the plane of the speakers), because of reflections from the panels...
