Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

The first one where it did well was blind, the second one was an individual test, factually incorrect and an obvious hatchet job by the guy who is an objectivist pianist, sorry I forget all their names. I think you must be wrong about the end cost as there was no court action and only a few letters...

Good idea. I've worked from the safety of a shell company before.

Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

How much money do you think I got off them :? if I remember correctly it was about £10k, plus they paid my solicitors. It was the QED digit / NVA DACon saga, I don't even remember the name of the the reviewer, I am sure you will as you worked at Choice. All it needed was a retraction once the facts...

Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

Frightening as the Yachting World case may appear, it is not a reason to be scared of criticising products. Recent developments in the law on the defence of fair comment (see p. 250) mean that as long as you test fairly (e.g. treating all the products in the same way, and presenting a balanced pict...

Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

now I would tell it as it is. See there is another corruption for reviewers. No you wouldn't. Because the spectre of Walker Wingsail Systems v Yachting World leaves a pervasive stench of fear in publishing. The smaller and more specialised the genre, the greater the fear. As a result of your lawsui...

Also that took time and care to write and we should all thank you for that, so
Sorry about that. Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Re: Reviews and reviewers - are they necessarily bad?

My take on this, point by point: Should there be a role for reviews and/or reviewers in the idealised hifi environment of the future? As things currently stand, I'm not sure. We are undergoing radical cultural change. In some parts of the world, hi-fi is still a subject of interest, but regrettably ...

Re: In tribute to Joe Ackroyd

Well I had a long chat with him when I visited his works in about 1997, and I am relaying what he conveyed to me. We had a good laugh as we both had the same poor opinion about the industry, especially dealers. If he could have sold direct I am certain he would have, as would I, but you couldn't at...

Re: In tribute to Joe Ackroyd

He was completely pissed off with the ignorance, bullshit, non paying dealers, bent reviewers, advertising dominated magazines etc and all the other crap that polluted our industry and still tries to. He knew more about loudspeaker design than the rest of the industry put together yet he had to sel...
