Re: Epos ES14
The first time I heard ESL63's - they were plonked on the floor, a Thorens 160 with 34/405 (from memory). The filters were in well use and the sound was absolutely terrible! Contrast this with a previous HiFi show where Quad had the 57's on trestle tables firing over the seated audience, who were th...

From the VE Linn 'room.' My LP12 Sounds Crap
Those that know me KNOW what my main expertise in the late 70's to 2004 was, and that was being able to get hopefully good noises out of an LP12. I studied hard in the early days as no two ever came out of the box the same, developed a 'feel' for grommet/spring matching and was meticulous on cable d...

Re: Epos ES14
No you haven't Jammy! Do you enjoy listening to music and play it as much as possible when the chance allows? That's all that's important IMO and if your replay system enhances your pleasure in the music it's reproducing, then that's perfect - isn't it?
Apologies, I probably missed the joke?

Re: Ashley James.
'Old school retired country squire!' There's good and bad in all of us Jammy and Ash has shown supreme kindness to me on occasion. He has a business to promote and in fairness, he's never been anything but himself on this, which goes back to his ATC days from 1988. Just let him wash over you and don...

Re: Epos ES14
I think Celestion lasted a bit longer (some years) after the SL600 was launched and IMO they DID make some good speakers away from and after the 'flagship' models of this era.. Incidentally, I work a fifteen minute walk from the old Celestion factory site, which is now a modern small housing estate ...

Re: Epos ES14
Speaking for myself, I just don't know what the fuss was about over the SL600. Sure, it corrected the muffled response of the SL6 (itself balanced on the Quad 63 measured head-on rather than tilted back...), but it always sounded to me as if it had a carrot stuck up its rear end  Small and iffy...

+1 :DDr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:That is not high, just buy anything from the 1960's and most of from the 70's. It is only modern-ish speakers who insist on being 4 to 8ohms.

Re: Epos ES14
It still tried to be part of the flat earth and was voiced that way to my ears. You're right, but as I said above, it was a conscious decision how this model evolved and is very much of its time, but we'll never know how it could have been refined further as the target market evolved slowly into mo...
