Re: Linn Lies
Even Russ Andrews sells one for less than Linn: Origin Live belts for Linn (an alleged upgrade, no less) £29.60!!!!! - Unless, I misread it of course and it was £296.00!! I'm a NAIM owner but beginning to see through the rip-off culture. I always wanted a NAIM (having believed the bullshit). I wish ...

Cleaning of contacts
What is everyone's views regarding cleaning contacts i.e. mains plugs and interconnects? I have read in the past that NAIM has recommended removing and replacing DIN plugs a few times in order to clean them and at the other extreme Russ Andrews (arrgh!)recommends regular treatment with Deoxit wipes ...

Re: Attenuated Interconnects for CD players
Yes I forgot the T9s. The sole remaining example 30120 is currently resident on the Bodmin & Wenford railway in Cornwall and is resplendent in lined - out (BR or NVA!) black livery. Also forgot the little B4 0-4-0s with birdcage spark arresters as they worked a local timber yard on the Turnchape...

Re: Attenuated Interconnects for CD players
My interest in steam trains may have stemmed from being born within sight of Plymouth Friary loco shed (SR). West Country and Battle of Britain Pacifics were frequently seen there until the shed closed in May 1963. Classes M7, O2, E1R, N, Ivatt 2MT were also resident. The main shed however was Laira...

Re: Attenuated Interconnects for CD players
Since I started this thread, I have changed my interconnect from a Kimber Silver Streak with -16db attenuation (from Russ Andrews) to a non-attenuated Witch Hat Hat-Pin S3. This made for a much more detailed and dynamic sound without harshness. I now realise that the Doc was right about the negative...

Re: Attenuated Interconnects for CD players
Many thanks Doc - I will dig out my old NAIM interconnect to compare!!
P.S. Are you related to the broadcaster James Whale perchance? I seem to detect a certain similar 'Does not suffer fools gladly approach!' Great stuff!

Attenuated Interconnects for CD players
One of the most common problems with CD players seems to be that output is too high and thus overloading the amplifier input. This results in the characteristic 'hard' and 'shouty' CD sound many rightly consider inferior to viynl. I think Russ Andrews is right in recommending attenuation. OK, I know...
