I have found shielded Cables can interact with certain equipment producing a hum- I have to ‘de-earth’ the plug at my streamer connection- I do prefer to have some form of shielding as I believe it ‘quietens’ the whole system

Agreed- not pretty and in the long term could affect cone / voice coil gap. Personally I’d remove it, redo or leave off.
I would source a replacement driver if they mean a lot to you

Bit of progress made- changed the 7w cement resistors and renewed a lot of the general solder joins.
Had sweet music for a few mins then the distortion returned
I am waiting on a delivery of a pair of Tip - after that I wil have exhausted my basic repair knowledge

I have quite a few used Nva amp boards I’ve collected over time for spares repair and general experience/ experimentation. I’ve successfully restored a pair with no blue smoke when connected to the psu- when connecting music I have a distortion in one channel only- there is music but with distortion...

In my car I have ditched my ICE double din thingy and installed an ifi zen sig dac which I feed via usb from iPhone- this to a power amp etc.
Always wondered about a Hi-Res player instead
