Re: Did Anyone Do the NVA challenge in the 90`'s
Thankfully, I never ended up going too far on the Naim ladder as I started down the DIY path thanks to PFM and people like Les W and Andrew L Weekes etc. I used to buy all the hifi mags back in the late 80's and 90's, and even when you picked up the latest flat response, then later hifi review you k...

Re: NVA p80 pre with phono stage.
If you pop the lid off the P80 you should find that the 4 x LM317/337 voltage regulators that power the 4 x gain stages with the OP27 op amps on the phono bit are all on the same pcb. They will be linked together for use with a single power supply, so if using four the links will need to be cut and ...

Re: Prototype a Artwork by Paul Quick
I might be wrong, but the IT1X is the pre section of a Claymore.
The ID1P is all discrete (no op amps) and Class A through out.
I think only a few were ever built, so I'm very lucky to own one

Re: NVA p80 pre with phono stage.
Not sure I could DIY it if I had step by step instructions I may be able to. But depends on cost of parts. But I would like to have it done just to see what it's like. The LM317/337 voltage regulators are already on the phono board, so you would basically need to buy 4 x transformers (or something ...

Re: Prototype a Artwork by Paul Quick
Thank you Colin. Can't believe the beast still works.... maybe my soldering isn't so bad after all
ID1P preamp now in bits, must be getting on for 40 years old, so a recap should be worth while.

Did Anyone Do the NVA challenge in the 90`'s
I was using Naim at the time (42/5 DIY p/s nap 90) and remember reading an article in hifi answers or audiophile where Richard, or one of their dealers would visit your home to improve your hifi.! My nearest one was Truro iirc, which was quite a distance from me, but they were still willing to visit...

Re: NVA p80 pre with phono stage.
You could do either, though Richard used 4 separate supplies.
Maybe NVA would do the work for you, but not difficult to DIY if not.
