Re: MM versus MC

Yep the ortofon vms range used to have a set of different pf and nf value capacitors you could buy to tweak their f/r. The Rload is not too much of an issue, i use between 39k and 47k on my cole lcr phono stage, capacitance is more the thing to watch. There is a good thread on vinyl engine where som...

Re: MM versus MC

They are based on my own personal blinkers. Thing is that there are so so many variables in a setup that to me the question of if its mm or mc is one of the least important considerations. I have an at33sa and a vm750sh, essentially the equivalent mm and mc in the audio technica range. Both similar ...

Re: MM versus MC

Mm pros and cons. Pros Higher output Replaceable stylus Not really bothered about load Potentially lower moving mass as no coils on end of cantilever, just a lighter magnet More robust, no moving coil to output pin wires to break off Cons New stylus is practically the same price as complete cart the...

Re: Cartridge

I use a drop of either ipa or audio technica cleaning fluid on the cleaner brush on the goldring every so often. Ive ...

Re: LP12

If some tin foil stops it use some guitar pickup shielding tape for a less conspiracy theorist hat style solution. I have some 4 inch wide tape for this somewhere

Re: Cartridge

Looks fine, the cantilever angle should usually be around 20 to 23 degrees to the record surface for most relatively new carts

Re: New old rack and enclosures

Another idea for racks which i have seen done is to get a couple of ikea lack tables, cut the legs down to whatever height you need the spaces between shelves to be, stick a square insert into the cut end with a threaded insert in the centre of that for a spike or a foot of some sort, and stack them...

Re: ‘Cheap’ mc cartridges

I have an at33sa on the linear arm/jbe. That runs into one of nick gorhams ha1 step ups. That tt is for best. I have a dynavector dv20x2h high output which is one of my all time favourite carts, both the high and low output ones. Thats on the roksan And another of my favourites, an audio technica at...

Re: LP12

Wonky bass isnt usually a symptom of a past its prime cart. Worn carts will in my experience tend to get dull at the top end and harsh with it. Then you will start to hear mistracking, a sort of hash over the top of the music especially at the end of sides. If you arent getting this then the cart is...
