which speakers for Doc mods ?
Hello,
I am interested in Doc modding some speakers.
What type of speaker is best suited to this ?
Small standmounted or floorstander
ported or sealed
I have a small pair of mordaunt short budget stand mounts but i think they are rear ported.
Thanks, Stu

Re: Transformers
I wouldn't put an EI on the output stage of a class AB power amp but preamps, phono stage, dac, clock, cdp anologue stage are all fair game for a bit of experimenting i feel. Hey even the regulated front end of my power amps can benefit from an EI transformer i am lead to believe.

Re: Transformers
So Doc, what makes you like toroids more than EI ?
Lower hum field ? Lower winding resistance ?

Re: Consumerism
Hope you enjoy your purchase.
I build my own or modify stuff now, well the things within my ability.
I have a lot of Avondale audio DIY modules and other diy kits which have given me hours of enjoyment building and listening. Saved a heap of cash too.

Transformers
Most of the gear i have owned has come with a torid. I have just acquired four lovely EI transformers to try instead of toroids. Can't wait to see what effect these will have on SQ. A year or two ago i used very small (5VA) pcb mount EI transformers for dac and clock supplies in my Naim CD player. W...

Re: Consumerism
Maybe it is a sign of age but i am only just over 40. How much money is too much ? A hard question to answer. Over £50k ? Social media - most people i know participate and must have been born with a smartphone in their hand. It must have an effect on consumerism. I don't even have a smartphone, my f...

Consumerism
Consumerism is out of control. A lot of people have too much money and have to have the best and most expensive of everything. The shiny new car that gets polished til the paint disappears, the huge house (mortgaged up the eye balls). Keeping up with the Jones' is big around here. Having a young fam...

Re: The Hi-Fi Industry and Hobby
I have not set foot in a dealers for 15 years and my hifi has improved so much in that time at minimal expense. I remember the last time i heard from said dealer. He rang to try sell me a cdp. I said no and that i did not have the spare cash i used to have since buying my first house. He went from t...
