Re: Damp A80 Mk 1s

What lateman says is good advise , if a little ott for my patience .

If it were me , I'd leave for a couple of days to make sure they had a chance to naturally dry , turn on and wait . 😉

Colin , Richard always said Alan wasn't very good to know, let alone work with .

He did the same to him , befriended him , took advantage and then was incommunicado .

Re: Definitive DIY

Despite Linydsey's recommendation , I resisted the temptation to use my tongue ( it's 45 volts ) but the tool did as advertised though it took longer than 3 seconds and I successfully fitted the fm300a boards . Quick listen and oh there so much detail . BBC recordings of genesis , mama ,you can hear...

Re: Hackett To Pieces

I find it ironic , given his stat reason for leaving , he's turned into a genesis tribute act.

And I missed the bits of the original lamb done on saxophone.

I will be missing it.

Re: Definitive DIY

Today , im feeling rather foolish . A capacitor discharge tool as arrived and I'm wondering why I haven't had one sooner . It would have saved a fortune in blown boards .

I console myself with the fact I've had a major brain injury and a survival rate of 20% makes me lucky beyond belief 🤣

Re: Definitive DIY

Contact glue sealed the carbon fibre in place , the driver isn't heavy and dome midranges have low velocity moving mass so it should be enough to hold it in place .

When the cabinets are complete , I am going to nick an idea from Sonus Faber and cover the baffle in faux leather .

Re: Definitive DIY

The midrange opening was to wide , so a piece of carbon fibre was used with the appropriate circle cut into . Cutting a circle in cf is bloody hard .

Re: Definitive DIY

Each small driver is having its own chamber in the box.
.
The midrange in the original box was cardboard and damaged . So I used 150mm pipe . Cut to size , given a cardboard end termination , then sprayed with plastidip
