Thanks Paul!
Not a constant hum. It's more like a faint radio interference, but not that strong that you hear someone talk or hear faint music. Don't know if this can be described as "flicking / chuffing noise".

Re: Phono 3 / RFI problems

I thought the answer is obvious? You need a grounding box. Of course I am joking.... Indeed... :) nah, no money for such questionable gadgets... Is there a tasteful/simple way to add a bit of an RFI shield to the outside of the box? Thanks for the tip Kev! Thought about that, but my experience with...

Re: Phono 3 / RFI problems

Thank you Richard for your response and tips. Two cures 1 stop the thing that is giving you the RF, 2 cure or comp (filter) the RF. Try ferrite rings, or I can fit a 1000pf cap on the input instead of 470pf. Fit a BMU (stops it if it is mains borne), even changing mains socket or equipment position ...

Phono 3 / RFI problems

When I purchased the Phono 3 last year (I use a phono 3 with one BBPSU), I had it set by Richard to MC mode. Originally, I bought a phono 2 mm version in late 2017, which I used with my BBPSU and a dedicated MC step-up transformer. The music this MM version made was fantastic to my ears! :-). (Read ...

Re: Cdp refresh

Try one of the old cheapo Philips machines with the 1541 in. That's probably what the meridian is based off, I found that I preferred the Philips machines when I had an mcd Pro a few years ago, the meridian was abit cold. I use a cd371 which cost about 20 quid A cheap used Philips, Marantz or other...

Re: Speakers

Very interesting read this thread! Shahinian loudspeakers (I think it were Arcs) were also very musical sounding to my ears and had a very effortless musical flow. Problem was that they were promoted by Linn dealers in Austria in the 80s and therefore quite expensive (to expensive for me at that tim...

Re: DIY thoughts of the day

You are 🤪 What is this Chinese DAC - seems popular 👌 Hi Latteman, There's info to be found on this forum about this Chinese DAC (from earlier this year). Just do a search. It is a recommendation of the Doc  and everyone who tried it with an external - I believe 5V - linear power supply has be...

Hi Stu, Your plan to bypass the analogue output stage of your CD3.5 sounds interesting. Does the CD3.5 also have a Philips 1541 DAC CHIP in it? Here is a link to the Lampizator site, who did something similar with a CD3 (of course a tube had to be used in the output stage, too 8-) ). http://lampizat...

A80 MkI experiences

Finally, here are my impressions of listening to music with the NVA A80 MkI amps, which I purchased from Richard this summer: The A80 MkI monos look very elegant in their black MkI acrylic cases and are definitely quiet, when connected to my 98dB efficient horn ls system. That is a big plus! :) In c...
