Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards
Really pleased with this now. Lovely relaxed, detailed and dynamic presentation and even better now I have my Musical Fidelity M1 DAC in circuit. The M1 always sounded a bit hi-fi and soulless with my valve amps and the earlier versions of this amp too. However, now the NVA clone (still not sure wha...

New 300VA, 25-0-25V toroid at bottom right: IMG_0201.jpeg Whilst I was at it, I removed the crap quality shielded input cables going to the selector and replaced them with simple straight wires. I find loads of these blue/yellow twisted pairs lying around next to BT street cabinets when I’m out walk...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards
Anyway, what has been bugging me for a while with this amp is that the output stage has a higher voltage transformer than the input/driver stage, which I’ve realised is a bit pointless as this isn’t a valve amp. The output stage (current amp) can only produce as much current as the swing of the driv...

Re: Fitting new cartridge.
Use a pair of long nosed pliers to hold the tag just behind the barrel that is supposed to slip over the cartridge tag. Push a suitably sized sewing needle into the end of the tag and carefully work the tag out to the right size. FFS watch your fingers! ie don’t push on the needle too hard. I have u...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards
Finished off the amp today with a major tidy up of the power supply mains wiring. IMG_0197.jpeg I'm not really happy about the length of the leads from the PSU caps to the boards, but short of a complete rebuild and change of layout, there's not a great deal I can do about that. so 'feck it and list...
