Re: Coronavirus contact tracing app - will you use it?

I, for one, have known for some time that we were not following the majority of countries with our track and trace model. I knew by reading the news about Covid-19 that has been freely available. It wasn’t, difficult. Many news outlets were only too happy to point out that yet again we were ignorin...

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak

[quote=Classicrock post_id=207151 Also the government had the wrong advisors (civil servants). Civil servants would not have been the source of advice on Covid 19. It would have been medical experts and, more likely, Demonic Dom who attended the SAGE meetings. [/quote] Some of Sage are outside expe...

Re: Coronavirus contact tracing app - will you use it?

I think that article rather points to the problem with civil service and NHS management. Good thing if ministers have realised at last they can't be trusted. Don't expect politicians to know technical detail as they aren't IT experts. How much detail do they get told? If you remember the Yes Ministe...

Re: Obits

Gutted about Dave Greenfield. Apparently Stranglers were supposed to be doing their farewell tour this summer. Millie 'My Boy Lollipop' was really the start of Island Records. Great label in it's day.

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak

There's a pretty decent article here, from the Sydney Morning Herald, looking at how we've handled, or mishandled, the coronavirus pandemic, from half a world away. https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe/biggest-failure-in-a-generation-where-did-britain-go-wrong-20200428-p54o2d.html I was worried abou...

Re: Opinions on how the Government have handled the coronavirus outbreak

Scotland still have an upward curve in infections especially in care homes. But less face facts. Sturgeon is two faced having continually hinting at relaxations and future plan up until this point. Suddenly jumping the opposite way when she sees the situation in Scotland is worse than England. I alw...

Re: Coronavirus contact tracing app - will you use it?

The issue is where the data is stored. Other countries leave the data on the phones and the phones communicate with each other. The UK version submits all your data, with consent to use it for pretty much anything, straight to Dominic Cummings. I've spoken to a couple of IT guys, they won't be down...

Re: Coronavirus contact tracing app - will you use it?

Sure...if the process is transparent and legal. The aim should be to get as many people as possible reporting their status. An app that is independent from the government would get much wider acceptance. Problem is an independent app is not a viable option as this has to be public funded and run on...

Re: New Turntable wanted

Judging by the requirement for 'lean and mean' sound I would suggest an original Roksan Xerxes if you can find one without a bendy top plate. Also why not try a new/current direct drive model (either new or slightly used) such as the Technics GR ( not much over £1K new). A used Notts Spacedeck or Gy...

A lot of you must international spies or drug dealers if your bothered about info on your phone. Personally I think it good for us the more we know about each other. Sure...if the process is transparent and legal. The aim should be to get as many people as possible reporting their status. An app th...
