Re: JPW AP2

Hi Doc.

What's your advice for most appropriate stands for the AP2's, open frame or mass loaded central pillar?

Going by what you've advised so far regarding mass, my assumption would be the latter.

Thanks.

Indeed!

I may just do that Doc but I think I'll be patient and wait to see what the further mods bring first.

Re: JPW AP2

Thanks Doc. I agree that removing the bitumen would be ideal, but I don't want to start making a mess of it if it won't come out clean. 5mm mild steel plate will add approximately 7kg to each cabinet, so that sounds OK to me and a good quality rubber/solvent based contact adhesive should do the job ...

Re: JPW AP2

Didn't mention it but on the JPW and Goodmans speakers I did put new caps and put a resistor on the tweeter. I used a variable resistor and changed the resistance on the high frequency until I thought the balance was correct. Thank's floydfan. I put a Monacor MKP in place of the bipolar electrolyti...

Re: JPW AP2

Step by step, take out BAF and listen. Done Doc! I wasn't expecting to hear much difference, I give it try with ZZ top's Head's in Mississippi. What a revelation, first impression is that I feel the speakers improved by a fair margin, far more realism. Is this perhaps because there's more free air ...

Re: JPW AP2

Thanks Doc. Has anyone else on the forum undertaken the mods you propose I wonder. If 5mm plate lining is going to improve these babies that will not be a problem for me, but I do wonder how best to affix it ? My AP2's only have BAF wading (no foam) but the panels have quite thick strips of bitumino...

JPW AP2

I've recently purchased and early pair of these large stand mounters in order to restore and play with them. The 8" drivers needed re-foaming which I have succeeded in doing apparently successfully - they are playing away very nicely as I write this. I also took the opportunity to replace the B...

Re: NVA Reviews (THIS THREAD IS ONLY FOR STASHING REVIEWS)

Afte reading YAAWWANS absurdly biased :Bllocks: "review" of Doc's SSC's I decided to try for myself, purchasing a 40cm pair via NVA's eBay shop. Doc has posted my email feedback above. This little upgrade has prompted me to purchase a further pair to link output from my Grad 1 to my pair o...
