Re: DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT Vienna Acoustics BEETHOV

I heard a pair of big and expensive Vienna Acoustics speakers at a Show a few years back - I can't remember the model. Pleasant enough and they did dynamic scale quite well, but not the most exciting or involving sound around. I suspect they favour a mid to rear hall perspective on the music. Which ...

Re: BADA

I seem to recall the BADA ads in the old hifi mags -- I think that some of them had quite a pretty young lady in them for some reason? Or maybe it's just my lecherous old brain adding that small detail. :D The ads all said that BADA was there for the benefit of the buying public. A la...

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Omni directional ribbons? -- well, not really. There's a circle of carbon fibre "petals" in each Radialstrahler driver which are flexed to create the sound. Very fast and transparent it is, too!

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

 I wonder what class D amps / chipsets you have heard? .... the best of them, to my ears, have improved drastically over recent years. The original class T modules as used in the old Veritas P400 amp and the TA2024 chipset, and others, have a quite laidback sound. The TA2020 amps and to a les...

Re: Pioneer PL-71 tt - simple mods worth doing?

Hmm .... I gave the platter a flick and the darn thing rang like a bell! :o .. that can't be ideal.

I have some plasticine that I'll use to see if I can damp the platter a bit - hopefully a bit of extra mass won't over-exert the motor ....

I shall report back in due course. :geek:

Pioneer PL-71 tt - simple mods worth doing?

Some of the Japanese direct drive turntables seem to respond well to certain easy DIY mods.

A friend has a JVC deck and putting plasticine in the plinth and platter has worked well to firm up the sound and make it more dynamic.

Is it worth doing the same sort of thing with the PL-71?

Re: Jerry's ongoing system blog

Re; class D amps. Hmm. I do find it curious that opinions tend to be so very polarised on class D amps. I've had a fair bit of experience with different kit, as well as a fair bit of exposure to live music and I almost always find class D amps very enjoyable indeed. Sure, they vary amongst themselve...

Ah, but I do not wish to be given any 'leeway'. :naughty:

I am happy to discuss the issue in a friendly and sensible manner!
