Record Collection Article - East Midlands Today.

This has been discussed on other forums and dates from 2010. Interestingly it features Derek Whittington who some may remember as proprietor of now defunct New Audio Frontiers (renowned flat earth dealer). Also wrote for The Flat Response magazine. According to reports he now operates from home as E...

Re: Record cleaning

I used to use the Cantorian system with good results. Kept it going with home brew cleaning solution after it went out of production. Eventually the applicators wore out and i dumped the other bits a few years ago. I then used the rather messy Disco Antistat system from about 10 years ago. I found r...

Re: Joeschmo

This idiot is taking liberties. How did you get involved with him doc ? - must come over as very plausible in person. Even having the nerve to foist his botched up equipment on unsuspecting ebay purchaser. Man is unbelievable. It's sad that hi-fi attracts people like this and am wondering why this h...

Re: I've been turned to the dark side

Dave. The Albarrys are 5.1Kohm input impedance so need 100 ohm output or lower idealy. The Lehmann gives 60 ohm output from a 47K input so should make most preamps compatible. Would try the Croft but worried it also has unusually high gain as standard from what I have read. Surprised pot on the NVA ...

Re: I've been turned to the dark side

Nice write up Dave. Looking forward to the comparison with the Rega Brio. Interesting your comparison to Albarry which I use and am thinking of trying one of the Doc's pre's with. I didn't pay anywhere near dealer price for these but similar to cost of A80. One thing with Albarry and a passive (or m...

Re: T20 World Cup

England were beaten by the Duckworth Lewis method not NZ? Anyway in sacking Peterson they were right daftees even if he is an intolerable twat. Might have come in handy for 20 over slogging.

Re: wall wart

A Wall wart is likely better than putting a cheap power supply in the case next to delicate electronics. If say a phono stage needs AC input it is merely a small step down device and not switch mode.

Re: Technics

What really peeves me is that the politically correct line is a Mike New bearing is essential as if the original is broken. Not many in their right mind will spend more on an improved bearing than the deck cost them. Mike New is getting virtually no serious interest from potential buyers these days ...

Re: Unipivots

Had a Mayware (over 25 yrs ago) and now regret selling. It was really nice sounding and I'm sure a MC will work as Mayware used to market a MC cartridge under their brand name. The effective mass can be increased by sliding the arm tube weight towards the headshell. This automatically gives higher e...
