Re: Unipivots

I must stop this posting frenzy..... The Sonus Blue suffered from a massive hf peak at around 28kHz. if the phono stage can deal safely with it before ringing or overload, you'll be fine. if not, it'll be as bad as the Colloms HFC review painted it back around 1980 or so.. I believe the stockist is ...

Re: News/ Cartridge.

This is the thread that persuaded me to sign up here :) I used my beloved Decca Gold Microscanner in a Nagaoka headshell (Sumiko feel alike) in my R200 on the TD125 and it sounded and tracked superbly. The Garrott Microscanner version seemed to retain everything that's good about the breed, but loos...

Re: ATC Amps.

Actually Richard and in fairness to AJ, ATC was the friendliest I've known it when Ash was there - he was usually held on a fairly tight leash when at the factory by Billy & Tim (the engineer/director/designers there) and I and prospective clients were royally treated back then. Obviously now, h...

Re: Unipivots

If you don't mind taking a punt on one and your MM stage has good overload margins at very HF, I think a new Sonus Gold Blue can still be got for under a ton. The Sonus Blue sounded amazing in the Mayware (just a little damping - enough to cover the conical part of the bearing well) and around 1.2g ...

Re: Unipivots

The only Denon MC I had at home was the 103S in a Mission 774. Linn inserted their chip where the sun don't shine a few months later when the Ittok came along and it was downhill from there for a while, I'm sorry to say :( I remember the 103S as slightly 'dry' sounding without the sexiness of a good...

Re: ATC Amps.

I do think my current ancient 'legacy' system is better at low volumes, but the old 100A's I had twenty years ago were something else and a refreshing change from the bleached and anaemic stuff I was selling at the time (no Linn by then and Naim was on the way out for us as well)

Re: Unipivots

For my sins, I set up loads of Formula IV's back in the day. The late 70's model sounded great with high compliance cartridges (Sonus Blue, ADC and AKG P8es and so on) but was too flimsy we thought with MC types. The (You've been [H])Adcock was excellent with Entres and Deccas but at the time, fell ...

Re: ATC Amps.

Hello again Shane, I once owned the original 'big' pre and power (SCA2 and SC-150? can't remember the exact model numbers now) and rather liked them. The pre did seem a bit too complicated - all those buffer stages - and to me, sounded like it needed an ATC equivalent of a 'SuperCap' multi-power sup...
