Phono Stages and the perils of "Temporary"

Unread post by foot tapper »

A very happy Sunday morning to you all from a newbie to this forum.

About 7 years go, I changed turntables from a Linn LP12 to a Rokasan Xerxes with a nice tonearm and a new Dynavector moving coil cartridge.
This change depleted almost all of my pocket money at the time, leaving not much left for a phono stage.
The dealer recommended a Dynavector P75 Mk II at the time because there does seem to be a certain musical synergy between DV moving coil cartridges and their little phono stage.

So I agreed to buy the P75 as a temporary, stop gap measure. Did I say temporary? I fear so.
7 years later and the turntable, the tonearm, the pre-amp and the speakers have all changed.
But not the temporary phono stage, even though it is far from the best phono stage on the market, for it is a musical little thing.

However, this summer is time for the big change.
(no, not another big political change. We've all had enough of those this year).

I'm on the hunt for a phono stage that is a step change up from the humble P75.

Now, the obvious thing to do is to order an NVA Phono 2 or a TAS off ebay, try it and send it back a week or so later for a refund if I don't like it.
But it just seems so unfair to NVA to do that, especially if there has been a special build of a TAS.

So, does any member have either a Phono 2 or a TAS that I could listen to - either at your place in your system or at my place in my system?
In return, you would be most welcome to come and listen to a few albums at our place.
We live a few miles west of Cambridge in the UK, in case you are wondering about travel distance & time.

Best regards, FT

Thank you Dr. PM sent to applemarc.
The PM is currently in my outbox, though hopefully it will go out okay.
Do I need to have a minimum number of posts on the forum before being authorised to send a private message?
The PM appears to be stuck in my outbox.

re location, I am happy to be specific in a PM, though less so on a globally readable forum.

Best regards, FT

It will stay there until applemarc logs on and spots it.

Yes, I'm a soft touch for such sales pitches.
