Just down the road from me those one's Martin, drivers look nice quality... Not sure about the "simulated wood grain" though !

Thats scary stuff ! I can well envisage you on a quest to get them back like in that "Taken" film but instead of a daughter its a pair of Akai's

I'm sorely tempted to go have a listen myself [only 5 miles away] I'm getting shot of the R50's... After throwing nearly £200 at them in replacement drivers & crossover components they are a complete letdown unfortunately.

£195 is a bit rich for the Sansui's though don't you think ? £100-£120 max I would have thought. If you download the 1978 brochure here: http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_librar ... 7000.shtml you can see they were 2nd from top of the range, the "SP-X8000" has the same mf/hf driver compliment but a larger cabinet & 16" woofers.

By the late 70's the good ones were gone, they were just cheapening them. Late 60's early 70's and you get real wood cabinets, craftsmen construction and seriously well made drivers. Yet again it was Jap inc, and they all used Coral drivers and you could buy them with Akai, Pioneer, Sansui et al name on them.

Even better if you could find them with the Coral name on them.

Can't argue with any of that, I used to have some Wharfedale's that used Coral tweeters... Very good they were too.

I've been reading up on those Sansui 7000's, the bass & midrange drivers are manufactured by "Matsushita" & the tweeters by "Foster." - All outsourced like you said. I think I'll pass, hopefully something interesting comes along soon...

1966, real wood veneer, possibly alnico magnets ? According to a google search they're one of the favourite vintage Sansui models.
