ALL metal cone drivers ring very badly at resonance point, in this case, right in the middle of the treble. If you don't do much to sort it, you get a Monitor Audio Sssssccccchhhh kind of colouration in the upper mid/lower treble, or you kill the speaker with a crossover that makes old Spendors look simple and/or too low a crossover point for most tweeters to handle! The little Audax tweeter is a £1.50 unit (well, used to be) that is pleasant enough I suppose, depending how it's used.

Dave is right Shane, back in the early 90's when these were made they cost about £2 each.

Why is the seller asking that much for an old tweeter? Are they getting rare??

These things go back to the early 80's - my set-up speakers (Boston A40's) used them and they really were cheap if bought in quantity in poly-trays I suspect!

Could be (very) wrong, but weren't these Audax tweeters made in India?
Sources: Macbook/Sony CDP-X303ES/TEAC UD-H01 dac & Sony PS-6570/Benz Micro ACE SL
Making it louder: Sonneteer Sedley/Sonneteer Campion
Speakers: Royd Sapphire
Hooking it all up: NVA Soundcord & NVA LS6

I thought it was the bass units that were made in India?

Wherever labour was cheap I suspect.

Shane, remember the Quad 11L's that sold in large quantities twelve or so years ago? I have it on VERY good authority that they entered the country, boxed and ready for despatch to a dealer, for something like $14 the pair at the time. Today, it may well be $50 for all I know, as powered/active equivalents can be got in bulk for $75 or less (but not in fancy boxes like the Quads are).

Believe me, middle-men slurping has been going on behind the scene for decades now, ever since the Japanese invasion of the early 70's! In the early days, the dealer made least of all as he had to discount to survive...
