This concurs with my findings and it has prompted speculation that x overs take away something from the music as well as attenuate the relevant frequencies

I find the mods also appear to remove a tendency for hardness with some recorded vocals and highs are beautifully clean, clear and so wonderfully smooth. Makes one think if this level of performance can be achieved with humble AP2's what may be achievable with more costly units?

Yes,this is want i meant.

I don't like a dull sound
istari_knight wrote:"BBC" sound
Yeah,that's the one! I've heard Spendor , Harbeth and some ATC loudspeakers which really didn't appeal to me,but I also don't like it "in my face",I've found some Horn speakers to be like this.

I'm "very" sensitive to "high frequency" though,but not intolerant.Years ago i met a chap who made Turntables (Tom Fletcher) we were having a chat about my dislike for brass instruments (well,the one's on vinyl that is). He said that I should go and listen to it live,so I did,and what a difference,it was actually sweet as honey .I don't think recordings come close to the "live" performance,or I should say I haven't heard a Hi-Fi system / recording produce it.

I like the sound to be realistic but not to "shout"

I hope this makes sense :think: I'm finding it's quite difficult to express in words want I hear,but at least I know what i want to hear :grin:

I guess I'll just "suck it and see"

You will learn how to adjust the doping and padding resistors for the sound you want.

I like all instruments apart from the bagpipes. For some reason I always have the desire to take a shotgun to them.

You may have noticed I've been pretty quiet the past few days ? I was really enjoying the little JPW's until I picked up some Technics speakers on Saturday which I'm completely smitten with... They're still completely stock but sound so inherently musical, you can tell the designer/s actually listened to them during the design phase - Well either that or they got bloody lucky :lol:

I still think the JPW's are fantastic value for money & make a great project. There is only so much that can be achieved with their limitations but what they do, they do very well :guiness;

All in good time ! I was in a rush with the JPW's as A) they sounded a bit poor in stock form and B) I wanted to get a handle on your mods. I will be doing the same with the Techies but taking it slow this time, listening for weeks at a time between mods :)
