Another Allison 6 refurb thread!

Unread post by jimbob »

The Allison 6s have arrived!!! Been really looking forward to them arriving and they do look rather nice. They are white at the moment but will be getting a rub down and sprayed black. Full doc mods to follow in the new year. Hopefully steel plate this weekend. Will post pics tomorrow if I can!

Has a look at the bison glue for the steel plate. They do a few different glues so is the universal glue the one to go for?

Had a quick listen to them last night with them plonked on top of a couple of boxes until I get decent stands. Very pleased With them. The treble isn't as sweet as the Minstrels but I'm putting that down to the aftermarket tweeters. One tweeter has been poked which probably doesnt help. Visaton G20s will be the first purchase then doc mod drivers. In every other way they have the Royds beat hands down. Bass is taught and tuneful and has more impact than the Royds. They image astonishingly well and definitely do the disappearing act in a very convincing way. I expect all these things to improve as the modifications are carried out.

First on the agenda is to sort a couple of cab imperfections out and spray black. The front baffle will be getting veneered and new grille covers will be getting made.

How much of Bison Kit would be needed to glue in the steel plates to an average pair of bookshelf speakers?
