Modding Minstrels

Unread post by jimbob »

Along side my Allison 6 project I was thinking about the possibility of modding my Minstrels but I'm not really sure where to begin and what will be worth while. Any ideas on the best way of improving what is already a stunning pair of speakers???

Why did Mr Royd put the wadding in,in the first place, was it just accepted practice then.??

FFS, how many times do we have to have this question!!!

Everyone puts wadding in, I think it has just became an accepted convention. All you have to do is take it out and tell me if I am right or wrong. If I am wrong put it back, small job.

I hope you have more luck than me,one speaker was fine ,but the other one had it stuck in and i only managed to get two thirds of it out.All now back together without any blood spilt.Having seen the thick steel plate on the rear panel i realize why these small speakers are so heavy. Now listening to Sarah K Water Falls.Early days yet,but everything seems to be a bit more in focus,or as Russ Andrews would say,the musicians appear to be playing better.

Some Royd have some steel plate in them but they would benefit from more, not just on the back panel, especially if wadding is fully removed. Other Doc Mods are mostly already done, the bass driver is doped, the crossover is minimal. The only other thing worth trying is blocking the port. This will tighten and tunify (is that a word) the bass but the speaker will need to be back further to the wall to get the balance back.
