I think cracking in green oak is caused by the wood drying out too swiftly. This causes distortion (all HiFi fans wish to avoid this I feel!)

I have a mate who is a cabinet maker by trade and I think he used wax or waxy sealant to try and slow this process - I'll ask him when I see him next and report back.
I think I might be in the HiFi trade.
I am not currently seeking treatment for this.

I'm not sure you'll be able to avoid splitting completely due to the bulk of the timber. As stated, allowing it to dry out slowly will minimise it but for oak that size it would be months of slow drying, (outdoors).

Let it split, call it the natural look.

First set in place.
They been sanded and given coats of danish oil. Screwed together. The feet are blind electrical grommets screwed in, the top is just the end of the sleeper. I'll probably use some bluetack to stop the speakers getting knocked off.

Looks - loads better imho. Sound, well, when I had one in place, the sound seemed to be pulled to that side, so I think there's a little improvement.
