Whilst I await the arrival of my doped drivers from Doc my thoughts have turned to the making of some small stands.
The Marantz imperial cabs I am using are 65 x 36 x 30cm. The 12" bass driver is right at the bottom of the baffle and the tweeter will be near the top (obviously). I need to get the tweeter up to ear height when siting and the bass driver up off the floor to minimise boom.
This will require a small stand of approx. 20cm height. What should I build it out of ?
Would the ULTIMATE be steel lined timber or just steel or just timber ?
I have a welder and some steel and lots of other tools to do the job.
Thanks, Stu

Stands - the more solid and rigid and heavy the better. Steel is good stone and marble is good, solid wood is nearly as good.
12 inchers on the way from Germany now. Little more delay due to transit as no UK ones of the one I use at ebay at the mo.

I'm not a fan of hollow steel stands - to my ears they audibly ring and blur the sound. Filling them with heavy shot or sand doesn't fix their colourations for me, either.
My preference is for light but rigid.

Re: Ultimate stands for doc modded speakers ?
I have just put together a couple of small stands as an experiment by attaching some 6" screw in legs to some walnut worktop. These are the legs I used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162325913217? ... EBIDX%3AIT I am considering trying the 8" legs directly into the base of the speakers themselves.
The improvement over the breezeblocks that they were standing on before is significant, the home made stands also brought the tweeters closer to ear level so that might also be playing it's part.

These speakers are going to weigh an absolute ton In light of this I was thinking of putting them on castors but not sure about that yet.
Interesting ideas thanks.

If you have weight then casters are fine. The big old studio monitors were mostly on casters, but good old fashioned solid ones, there are crap plastic casters as well.

I think these Kendrick casters will look very 1970's just like the speakers. 75mm when fitted, I will have to make something 125mm tall for them to attach to and to take the height up to the 200mm I need.
