Well that only lasted a week, before it started to drive me up the wall.
I tweaked the cap value down a bit, which gave a little relief, but the best outcome came when I removed all the damping from the cabinets.

Trialling these cheap, 3inch polyprop cone, tweeters in the Flatty Omnis, and thoroughly enjoying them.
Lovely tone squire.

Cone tweeter in a speaker purporting to be hi-fi?

It's hilarious!
The further I take this design away from all that hi-fi :Bllocks: the better and more like music it sounds

Cones are good apart from extreme extension and a tend to beam in very small drivers. A small cone and a nipple or dome combined is the best solution like the early AR / Allison, but try finding them.

Yes, beaming was a worry before I installed them. But it doesn't seem to be much of a problem in a small room like mine. You can't get far enough off axis for it to become an issue. It's forty years since I heard a cone tweeter equipped speaker and it's a nice experience. Female vocals and massed strings are particularly good with one; not a hint of screech on either.
The hi-fi market is obviously not interested in cone tweeters, which means they are cheap as chips and fun to play with.
This one is 92dB efficient and will handle 22W rms so definitely not a party tweeter, but with an efficient pro bass/mid like mine, you'd be deaf before you got anywhere near 22W of treble power going.

Cone and dome are now combined to produce sonic fabness:

Cone is mounted on a gimbal so it can be swivelled to focus the image, without having to toe the cabs in.

Yes, and the thing is, the sound is great as well.
I've discovered that to get the semi omni principle right, you really do need to get that combination of forward and upward radiation correct so that you get a spacey spread AND proper imaging. There is a lot more to achieving this than you think.
But if course you know all that already Richard. :)

Excellent work Steve. Your project seems to take a more measured approach to mine - I am a to hell with it, lets try it and see without any real idea of what is going to be achieved sort of guy.

"A spacey spread and proper imaging" - I seem to be achieving that with my upward firing tweeter whereas you are doing it with two forward firing tweeters. I don't think two forward firing tweets is the way for me to go - our projects are similar but different at the same time.

I am toying with the idea of adding a side firing mid just to see what it does. That will make two bass (isobaric), two mids (up and side firing) and two tweeters (front & up firing). Added to that is the fact that with the bass drivers I am getting some low level mid band because of the non existent inductor.

Sorry, this is your thread Steve. I should keep my rambling nonsense to my own thread.

I don`t believe Steve will mind Stu. I`m certainly no expert but side firing mids I would be unsure about. Still, will be interested in your results.

Any more news on your doubled tweeted Omni Steve?
