Larger Semi-Omni Development

Unread post by SteveTheShadow »

OK
I have a further development of my small "Flatback Banned" semi-omnidirectional loudspeaker.
These will have a 10 inch bass driver, right at floor level, in a sealed cab.
A separate sealed mid/treble enclosure will sit on top of the bass cab with the mid firing upwards and the treble firing forwards.

These are the preliminary drawings just to give an idea of the concept. So this post is more of a placeholder at the moment.
They are not to scale, but the cab aesthetics will follow
my usual signature tapered shape:

It will be a while before I get these going as a build, and the cab shape may be subject to a slight change but
you get the idea. More will follow in due course.

That's the cabinet change that is the option. In fact it may be that the bass section ends up as a rectangular cross-section, with just the top cabinet having two inward sloping sides with the front and back vertical. I'm wary with the initial shape of cabs that the tweeter firing ends up over the head of the seated listener, so there's room for manoeuvre there. I tend to chuck ideas about in the initial stages of projects. Something usually comes to the surface eventually.

One thing I don't want is for the bloody things to end up looking like Naim SBLs

That was exactly what occurred to me. However, if the cap fits etc. Don't compromise the sound for a set of prejudices! :hand:

Just to add a little forum politics to explain Steve bringing this here. At Audio-Talk Noddy and Greg have tried their hardest to get me to leave or for Nick to boot me, it hasn't happened and I still stand up for myself and fight my corner. Having failed they have turned their frustration onto Steve, and an absolutely disgusting attack on Steve and his designs came from Greg, and slimy willy mouthed backing from Noddy, as is his way.

I welcome Steve and his projects that are well worth the investigation, but I am equally sad that he has allowed them to win a small battle and take away *what they* see as a NVA and Doc supporter from Audio-talk. Sadly for them not true as Steve is no one's shill, he is an honest man, which neither of those two can claim.

Well Doc,
After the latest snide little remark on another thread, clearly aimed at me, I've walked away from AT.
I bear Nick, Scott, Simon, Steve S, Ed, Paul, Chris, Phil, and all the other good friends I've made over the years, no malice, and hope to stay in touch with them privately but I don't see myself as fitting on the public forum anymore.

That is a shame , their loss is our gain , or as I just said on Audio Talk , it is equivalent of Arsenal losing Mezut Ozil .

DQ if you have a Nicaragua flag I think I may change mine to Cuba - I love the place. Or just do it for when I am there on holiday.
