Tweeter Placement - A Steampunk Possibility

Some semi-omni designs have a tweeter placed above an upwards firing bass/mid driver rather than in the front face of the cabinet. My thinking is that by utilising a standard cube type setup for the bass/mid, one could fashion an assembly to position the bottom of the tweeter about three or four inches above the bass driver and either level with the front edge of the bass/mid or perhaps centered over the dust-cap.

Some quick arithmetic would suggest that a 40cm stand plus 30cm cube plus another 15cm to the centre of the tweeter would put the centre of the tweeter at a height of 85cm.

It would all look a bit steampunk using something like 1/2 inch malleable steel pipe for the tweeter mounting system but having the tweeter effectively suspended in free air may (or may not) enhance the omnidirectionalty a bit, depending on the dispersion pattern of the tweeter.

Why bother, ask any Cube owners if they would bother.

Anyway if you want another answer of why not then just read the AES papers and patent docs by Roy Allison.

Something like this Simon? http://www.duevel.com/Produkte/EBLdia.shtml I've heard Dueval speakers on a couple of occasions and enjoyed them but never in my room. I'm still enjoying my Cubes.
