Which DAC chip does this use? And will there be one chip per channel?

Pi ?

The (quite large) Pi community would certainly be interested in a high-performance linear PSU for a Pi, which also then takes the USB audio output from the Pi and converts it to SPDIF.

Such a product could also be used with micro-computers from Beaglebone, UDOO, Cubox etc.

I am not giving ANY details about it apart from what I have already. No presumptions, no mind sets interfering with choice. You will have to wait.

When built it will be sent to a couple of chosen computer geek ears here to assess it. I am in budget mode in my brain at the moment. We have the joint listing of the P20 / A20 (with free cable) for £300 at ebay. At the weekend I take that to Paul Messenger's gaff with a pair of Cubettes, and that will be listed as a system with cable for £650. So this computer thingy me bob is for going with that, which is why I am aiming for £200 or less, so it completes the system (adding your computer of choice as source of course).

I am searching for a giant killer as the rest of the system is, we will see if I find it.

Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:Much different project. CD player required MINIMUM INVESTMENT for me to do it, didn't happen. This doesn't, parts a dead easy to find and buy, jobby is dead easy. No donor unit required which was main problem with CD player. AND Jammy don't rewrite history. The CD player was a response to you lot keeping asking (NAGGING) me, so I said well OK but its up to you lot, and it was you lot (not enough of you) that fecked it up. Again this is different.
Problem with a CD player is Cambridge do a high quality transport for £300 and you can add a DAC of your choosing or maybe your black box could be adapted since most dacs suffer from plug top PS. Needs to compete with Mr Beresford price and sound wise! BTW Oppo are now doing a 'transport' for £330 which despite it's name includes a dac that does DVD/SACD. Tough market now.

Fair enough. If you want a second pair of ears to give it a listen then I am willing.
