Another rethink.

Unread post by Dr Bunsen Honeydew »

For what ever reason my quiet summer I normally get as order numbers get smaller has gone this year. I have more business than I normally get in the Winter at the moment. This means build / delivery times are going out further and further, I am out to nearly 3 weeks at the moment which in the end will get ebay moaning at me.

As explained I am happy the size I am, I don't want all the hassle of having to get a workshop, hire staff, done that worn the tshirt and hated it. Maybe in the future when someone else runs the company, but not me, and I hopefully still have a few years at it.

Solutions - Put prices up to deter orders and make more money - not my way, I have a fixed mark up for the three stages of upgrade, I already make enough money for my needs.

Restrict sales, well yes but how. I am already thinking of just closing the ebay shop in December so I can catch up, but I will be on my main annual holiday most of December. Restricting the upgrades listed at ebay is another thing that I am doing already. I decided to make the top upgrades only available from the forum and not listed at ebay, as to be honest because of the bespoke element involved and the understanding of how to use them I am only happy with experienced NVA customers owning them. So no Statement products or Cubix or Cubix Pro speakers will be listed at ebay. I am now going to extend that to a few new Black Box products as well. The Phono3 and the BBPSU and the Jammy Special AP10h will only be available through the forum. For me ebay is getting people to get into NVA so the starter products of P20 / A20 SC interconnect and LS2 speaker cable will always be low cost and low profit intros to NVA. Then get them to become part of the club and join the forum. HFS will always be open to any Hi-Fi user nva or not, it is just the NVA room that will be the club.

It seems my perceived on-line personality is helping to restrict sales, with both AoS, PFM and Wigwam trying their hardest to not let people know or talk about NVA. This puts me in two minds, I really want people to hear NVA and appreciate it, I suppose an ego thing. But the removal of so many eeediots from my potential customer list has been a blessing in disguise.

My perfect customer is the person who is not sure, tries something, likes it, becomes more confident, listening to every step on the way, and understanding it and why it was designed that way, and ending up in a couple of years with a full or nearly full NVA system. I can be certain they bought, I didn't sell to them, they are obviously not eeeediots, I enjoy their company and talking to them on the forum or if we meet, no egos, no know it alls, no selling only buying, only happy customers not those with continuous doubts who have to rely on the brainwash to keep them in line, keeping following the bullshit as with the likes of the Linn Naim flat earth brainwash.

I don't think AOS or PFM (even Wigwam any more) represent a significant number of hi-fi enthusiasts. I will continue to mention NVA on Hoffman forum which truly has a large worldwide membership. I know of one member who purchased a Phono 2 on my suggestion after finding the much hyped iFi phono stage was an unreliable piece of crap.

The eeeediots are unlikely to ever give NVA a fair hearing. They exist, but you are getting busier all the time.

Bravo Doc. I don't always agree with what you say or how you say it but from your OP credit where it is due..."Solutions - Put prices up to deter orders and make more money - not my way, I have a fixed mark up for the three stages of upgrade, I already make enough money for my needs." wouldn't the world be a better place if more people were content when they had enough for their needs as opposed to always wanting more?

Admirable thoughts Doc.

Perhaps increase your prices, but also consider offering a "loyalty discount" for your staunch followers/supporters?

My main worry is who will take over from you when you decide to give it all up? Who else has your level knowledge and resolve to do things right?

I truly Love Les W's approach and products because he woke me up to the fact there was equipment better than Naim and my M130 Avondale clones have served me well for many years, but the little A20 has blown me away.

I applaud you for not putting prices up with business booming. I understand that the fall in the value of the pound has a lot to do with increased sales.

It can't be only that, maybe the word of mouth is getting around. I know it is in Italy and Germany. This country is held back by too many shits with bad mouths, but even so what you lot are saying is getting noticed.
