My mate is a monumental mason and I've borrowed granite, marble, quartz, onyx to try under my equipment.

All have had the same (to a degree) dulling effect (almost like a slowing effect on the rhythm) .

I suppose you may get lucky were a particular product marries well with this material and balances out.

Wasn't for me though .

I think it's a case of "suck it and see"

That's a fine looking way to set things up K, certainly a refreshing departure from the norm. The contrasting marble sets things off well. As to the OP (now long past being a problem lol) I wouldn't choose granite due to it's potentially ringy nature and the fact that it can be a wee bit radioactive, not ideal in my listening room :naughty:

If you want to use rock as your base I would suggest slate. Note it's use with Garrard decks. Slate is not a solid mass being made up of thin layers so there is breakup of vibration. Not a solid lump that will likely deaden the sound.

I thought only about the dimensions of this rack. The materials and the design is the same as the other furniture in our house. Do you really think that the material under the streamer, dac, preamp makes a difference?

Just build it out of wood or ikea lack products. No point getting all anal about it (says me).
