Re: Ask a designer
A friend asked me about those speakers
http://ohmspeaker.com/speakers/
My first thought was - similar design to cubes
but then I had a closer look and no nothing similar
Bas/mid is firing down into wooden box and tweeter
sits on top facing the room at 45 deg. to the centre
So Doc whats your opinion - could that actually sounds good
I am sceptical but then I would be of cubes without hearing them.

Re: Ask a designer
Interesting lots of work done on this by Raytheon and Marconi Company many people done a lot of testing and the conclusion are not always the same.
Many have tried to patent the concept he is one :-
https://www.google.com/patents/US3974398
Another article to help understand the problem due to RFI etc is this one:-
https://library.e.abb.com/public/a8dc0a ... N_RevD.pdf
And yet another and you will see the problems us poor guys are in when it come to designing cables :-
http://www.ecmag.com/section/systems/st ... lds-steady
So have fun, and is it worth the effort to shield like this you may ask?? Not if it is so stiff and rigid the wife thinks it a new shower attachment to clean the Hi-fi.

Re: Ask a designer
He got most thing wrong, he was an ideas man, good ideas bad implementation. In hi-fi terms the Neoteric sounded better than any Class D around now, but being discrete was complicated, unreliable (as all Sinclair) and expensive to make. And yes it shows how old I am we had some at G.W.Smith's so I played with it. Worst thing was the knobs used to break off. The 2000 and 3000 were evil badly made amplifiers in every way, they fell apart if you looked at them strangely. Best was the project 60 amp kits, got a lot of people learning to use soldering irons, main problem was the mess they made of them and then brought them back and dumped on the counter and expect you to sort it out for them.
Watch and calculator we good and original designs, absolutely loads were sold. Trike was any one with a brain could see it wouldn't sell. His big deal for me was home computers, he got that right, but again brilliant ideas no follow through. Others took the benefit.

He also had a terrible temper, and the Trike with the batteries in the tube was fun except they went pop a lots, when I was at Mamby Park I did the charger for the new Trike but it died , shame he was use so badly I even think Mr Sugar used him for Amstrad PC what a mess that was. , Was it Alan Mike Sugar Trading or something, well back to house work for me .Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:He got most thing wrong, he was an ideas man, good ideas bad implementation.
