Royd Sapphire Question.
Every once in a while, I like having a little listen to my Royd Sapphire MK1 speakers.
Are they designed to be used with the grills in place? My particular pair uses foam grills which are easily removable.

Re: Royd Sapphire Question.
Listen and decide, there is far more influence from room acoustic than grill.

Re: Royd Sapphire Question.
It is great to see my Royd Sapphire speakers up and running again. I'm glad they have still remain in good working order
My ears have to adjusts to their signature. The Sapphire are not as couth as my Neats! Its a bit like wearing a different shoe.

Been playing the Royd Sapphire a bit more.
They give a very ''front row'' presentation. Similar effect that Grado headphones give.

Re: Royd Sapphire Question.
Some opinions.
It has been an interesting night listening to my Royd Sapphire.
To my ears, the Sapphire sounds best with good recorded ''simple'' music. Anything badly recorded or over complex, they are a mess!
For a laugh, I played some songs from ''Franz Ferdinand'' 2004 album. The Sapphires sounded absolutely dreadful. My ears were bleeding!!. I also had the same dreadful results while playing a Basement Jaxx CD I don't want to go into detail, so please don't ask!
Later on, I put on Leonard Cohen's ''Ten New Songs'' album and what a big change! Lovely big informative sound coming out of the Sapphire. I can hear and almost feel the old man ''grumpiness'' in Leonard's voice.
These Royds are ported but the bass is very tight, which doesn't boom.
My relationship with these Royds is a love/hate one

Possibly a Royd trate Shane - my wee Edens are the same, very sweet with good recordings but can be rather harsh n painfull if your choice of music is less than sorted or of the thrash metal kind...

I'm glad that I'm not the only one, jammy.
What albums have you enjoyed playing through your Edens?
Royds clearly don't take prisoners.

I enjoy a wide range of music Shane it realy is from "Abba to Zappa" & "Country Western through Death Metal"........I cant understand Classical though.
My Eden's shine with most music thrown at them....Played these through em last time home.
They sounded VG and had me grinning with....
Dire Straits - Live at the BBC.
George Michael - Listen without prejudice.
John Hiatt - Slow Turning.
ZZ Top - Deguello & Eliminator.
They dont like. (Busy mixes)
ZZ Top - Rythmeen.
Metallica - Master of Puppets.
Frank Zappa - Trance Fusion.

Re: Royd Sapphire Question.
Forgive me and I think jammy may well have the answer, but a bigger amp - one day - might help the Royds make better sense of bad or overly compressed recordings! A speaker with tight bass can often show up midrange recording-flaws, where a looser boom-box will mask it I think.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...
