Oh heck, so sad - I feel for you, Neil. It's a bugger when that happens.
But it has to be a refund, as RD says. I can't see any other choice, economically the tt sounds like it's a write-off.
Good luck finding something else of interest!

Without getting the arm checked , you do not know what damage as been done . bearings may have been effected , azimuth could be out [ it may be a setable parameter ] the arm tube could be bent or out of alignment or the fulcrum mechanism could be effected . It looks similar to a Jelco/ortofon arm and it looks replaceable .
However the economics dont look good . you are probably going to have spend 200-300 on a new arm if the motor unit is desirable and rare and you want to keep it , i doubt if he will be willing to give you sufficient refund to make it worthwhile for both of you .
