What's In Your Ears

Unread post by Stemcor1990 »

I have long suffered from problems due to the build up of wax. I used to spend a large part of my working day on the telephone and those nasty speakers and cracking lines did not do me any favours. A few months ago Mrs S persuaded me to get my ears syringed. I've had it done before so was not too worried. Then she decided that the NHS wasn't good enough so persuaded me to go private. A 5 minute consultation plus "evacuation" set me back £320 and one ear was still full of wax !!!

To cut a long story short, I had both ears "re-done" today and tonight my Cube 3s are sounding rather nice. The only downside is that I can now hear the nagging too clearly. I hope it's a small price to pay.

The real point of this post is that we all probabaly forget to take care of our ears. If I had posted this on the Naim forum, I could have claimed it was as good as adding yet another power supply etc... :P

I think getting your ears syringed is a better improvement in sound quality than any additional NAIM power supply could muster.

I too suffer from wax build up and got mine syringed earlier in the year. What an improvement, but it has not cured the slight hissing I notice when trying to go to sleep.

I've had them done several times by NHS nurse at local GP surgery. So going private is a waste of money unless there is a local problem with GP services. Certainly makes a vast difference but after a year I can detect a bit of wax build up again. Usually have to get them done every 4 year or so.

Tinitus, I have it too in one ear, no cure unfortunately. It can cause a rather irritating sort of ringing echo on some particular frequencies too. Should have looked after my hearing better at work over the years. :(

I have this as well - but with me it is related to exposure to wifi and mobile phones. Too much EMR and my ears start buzzing and ringing like mad - a day or 2 without too much radio emissions and it is tolerable again.

That's really interesting. There is no evidence to support that in the main so maybe you are the first?

I've had tinnitus since birth and it gets worse by the year. The technique, apparently, is to train the brain to ignore it (there is no known cure). Mine is worse on one side because I also have low grade Meniere's disease which also has no cure. Look it up on the web if it interests you. Full on Meniere's is dreadful.

Moral - look after your hearing when you're young. It's to late for me!

Exposure to radio emissions is rising rapidly in this increasingly-wireless society. A surprising number of people are sensitive to it and suffer headaches, concentration loss, general fatigue, etc. There is also ongoing research looking at EMR-related ADHD behaviour in children.
