Too many hi-fi shows ?

Unread post by Classicrock »

With Pet Food Pete digging a hole for himself in Harrogate are there too many shows. Sounds like there are only around 10 exhibitors lined up.

There is the new National Show which has been renamed Audio and AV and has moved from Buckinghamshire to the centre of Birmingham. Also two in the SE. The Windsor high end thing as well as the Indulgence show at Hammersmith. Some posters on PFM are claiming this is now the best. Add to that the Bristol and Cranage shows held earlier in the year. I suppose Scalford could be added now it has become commercialised.

There do seem to a number of shows throughout the year these days, some of which have drifted towards the higher end aspirational stuff. I used to look forward to these and remember travelling down to Heathrow (Penta?) and Bristol each year but got a bit bored eventually with fighting to get into crowded hotel rooms, only to stand next to someone with dubious personal hygiene talking over the music!

Must give a shout out to the Cranage Hall show in Cheshire however, which is my neck of the woods. Free entry, lots of free parking and a nice location. Even a free glass of bubbly on arrival! This show seems to have a more relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room and lots of enthusiastic hi-if people to talk to. Going from strength to strength it appears each year and this and smaller bake off events might be the future I feel.

I even met someone who claimed to have been on holiday with the Doc! His name was (either) Mark Hudson or Nigel M Brown running a company called Iota Audio Design- really decent bloke with previous links to Tom Fletcher, making an interesting range of turntables, tone arms and amps etc. and was discussing my NVA kit when he dropped the bombshell! He spoke highly of the Doc though, could have been a complete fantasist but maybe Doc can confirm!
