Rooms & speakers

Unread post by karatestu »

Will a semi Omni speaker work in any room?

I say any room  but but I mean one with the usual ceiling height, bay window, full of furniture, kid's crap and a TV on a wall bracket 3 feet above where one of the speakers would be ?

Never had too many problems with point & squirt although I did not like it when HWMBO decided the thick velvet curtains had to go and be replaced by blinds

I have the same question. My living/dining room stretches the whole length of the house and is long. However the dedicated listening area only comprises about a third of this length. The speakers are either side of the tv with front windows at one side and a sofa at the other which separates it from the rest of the room. The hi-fi rack, desktop PC and BMU are situated the other side of this partitioning sofa, along with a dining table and cabinets. The dedicated listening area is wider than the rest of the room with a sofa facing the tv and speakers. The ceiling can be described as being of a normal height throughout.

I have read the omnni-directional - point and squirt thread with great interest and after 40 years of living with point and squirt am unsure if omni-directional would be my cup of tea. There is only one way to find out and the 30 day return option is a safeguard. Plus points I can see is that I would not have to sit in the centre of the sofa for the best sound and the sound is also likely to be better in the area behind the partitioning sofa where I am often situated.

Another question concerns the benefits of moving up the Cube range from 3s to 1s. As background, amplification is provided by the A80s/P50SA with SSP interconnector. The speaker cable is LS6.

More bass weight and size, basically, apart from that very similar.

And much better sound if you are the other side of your sofa.

I have taken the plunge and ordered the Cube 3s. :) Have plenty of time to assess them and come to conclusions about the semi-omnidirectional approach now I am recently retired and have time for a lot more listening. :)

You'e made a good choice I feel. Other than I simply like NVA products (clearly), the Cube2's are great for me because I don't like being rooted to the (hot) spot. Prefer to have a broader listening 'zone' and the Cube2's do this no bother at all.
Primare CD22. Primare DAB/FM radio. SSP to NVA AP70 and AP10H(JS) with Denon AH-D7100's. LS5 to Cube2's.

The Cube 3s arrived today. WOW!!l. Right from the off there was a sense of scale and realism I have not experienced before. Can't wait to play more albums. A review will follow after some extended listening.
