New AKG K1000
The price is really steep - way too high in my opinion
but it looks to be very solid modern take on open baffle headphone
made to outlast anything on the market.

Re: New AKG K1000
I'd like to try a pair even though well out of my price range, my only concern would be comfort.
Re: New AKG K1000
I have the original AKG K1000 in my loft. Brilliant sounding headphones. I use them with a Musical Fidelity A1 from time to time.

Re: New AKG K1000
Well I will make sure I can try them, possibly for longer than 10 min at the show - If that happens I will let any one interested know - and I am happy to host a mini headphone meet.
Regarding comfort even the K1000 were really comfortable,
this one looks even more so plus it addressed all previous issues:
K1000 were really speaker phones in more way than one
needing proper speaker amp to shine plus a build quality was rather high but material used
didn't really passed test of time from rusting grills to disintegrating foams and rubbers
without any easy way of replacing/fixing etc
Only thing didn't change... (unfortunately)
original K1000 were unusually expensive for their times and even though we have more than few
headphones in 3-4k euros those days it is still rather expensive for headphones...

Re: New AKG K1000
The old K1000's look rather idiosyncratic, but in a cool way. I'd love to try one someday.

Re: New AKG K1000
in comparison:
Hifiman SHANGRI-LA is 50k USD
Sennheiser HE-1 55k Euro
but those come with amps...
so list of HPs only:
Abyss AB-1266 Headphones 5200GBP
Hifiman - Susvara 6000USD and with amp 18000USD
McIntosh MHP1000 Headphones £2,400.00
Audeze LCD-4 Headphones £3,599.00
Focal Utopia Headphones £3,499.00
Grado PS1000e – £1,699
and that's only full size
there are loads of IEMs costing similar money...
Audeze LCD-i4 - 2400GBP
oBravo EAMT-1s – £3,699
Hifiman RE2000 for well 2000USD
Shure KSE1500 – £2,500
and so on
I actually heard prototype of IEMs at Headroom London
with suggested price of 10k USD - I left the stand laughing
to honest surprise of the rep...
So yes those are "rather expensive" - I never said I find any of those prices anything more than ridiculous
and Doc you cannot even image how much I would like those prices to be a joke

Re: New AKG K1000
The have been re-cabled with Stefan Audio Arts Equinox. They cost me £400 second hand about twelve years back. I went through about a ten year period where all I could do was listen via phones in an eight feet by four feet something box room. Small house, kids needing bedrooms scenario. I tried Grado 225's, Senn HD600, HD250, HD650, Cardas cables, AKG K501, K340 and a few more. Plus spent some time with some old Stax headphones on loan. Also a handful of the usual suspect headphone amps along the way. The K1000 was by far the best, K501 second to my ears. However, they are not as good as listening to loudspeakers. Some years later, different house, still a smallish room at 13x11, i know its the worst shape, but big enough to do an adequate job. The good thing is, because of where it is in the house, If I desire, I can play music all night long and as loud as I want. A wonderful freedom to enjoy. Hence the headphones have been put away.
