Computer Dongle Advice
Obviously my computer will connect normally to the internet and to any free wi-fi network. BUT I want to be able to use it as a high quality music source playing from the internet when wi-fi is not available. It seems I need a USB dongle for 4g, will this be good enough and without drop out. Any recs please.

I only need it for an odd day here and there, like bake-offs. For a start will it do this without drop out http://stream-uk1.radioparadise.com/aac-320

Have you got a mobile telephone with 4G? If so, you can turn your mobile into a WIFI hotspot and it won't cost you a penny.

I did read it. What is it you think I missed?
You don't need a dongle if you can use your mobile as a 4G wireless hot spot. It will do exactly what you want it to do. The cellular network provides the internet connection and your mobile's WIFI then allows your computer to access that connection to stream. I do this all the time.

I don't want to use my mobile, it is just a phone. I want to do what the opening post says *use my laptop* in a situation where there is no hot spot or available Wi-Fi signal. I want advice and recommendations about THAT!

Re: Computer Dongle Advice
Doc, you could consider loading up a stack of music onto your laptop's harddisk or a USB drive. Preferably FLAC files for best SQ. then you would have demo music without needing any wireless connections at all.

Re: Computer Dongle Advice
4G USB Dongle is only as good as coverage
in normal situation is more than enough for AAC 320 even 3G would handle that
but if bake of is in some remote location or in the basement then it might not work at all
BTW George Hincapie is right that your mobile phone is already a 4G Dongle you can connect your mobile to your laptop
using WiFi from your mobile phone or you can use old fashion USB cable and turn your mobile phone into 4G USB Dongle with screen ;]
I know it is off topic but on mobile you can use RP app and it can store up to 12h offline music - not that it helps if you only want laptop
