In that case it was not a service it was an upgrade. we should not get these terms wrong. I am sure J7 knows what is good, just don't fall for the "service" bullshit.

Good rigid headshells are a couple of quid because of DJ TT like the Techy.

Absolutely! Very little in Hi-Fi needs "servicing". Tape decks are the exception where the mechanism needs to be relubricated occasionally and bearings lubricated (if so indicated by the manufacturer). Other than that there is virtually nothing to wear or deteriorate. OK I will accept that some potentiometers get noisy with age but if a few sweeps from min to max don't help contact cleaner may be all that is needed.

Well I'm now glad I bought my Rega Planar 3 just before the R200 was replaced. :grin: The magazines were making me think otherwise. :grin:
