Headphones?

Unread post by CaterhamKev »

What headphones do you use if any?
I currently have some Sennheiser HD650 and some HD540 Référence II.

If I am honest, I find them a bit polite and clinical. Can anybody recommend something a bit more musical, more dynamic sounding?

Grado SR225e.

Used to have Audeze LCD-2 but found that they 'just don't boogie'.

Auditioned a couple of Senns - thought much the same as you describe.

Liked a pair of Beyerdynamics that I had about 5 years ago. They were good fun - meaty, beaty, big & bouncy. Can't remember the model number - paid about £100.

Grado? I will give it some thought.

Anybody tried the Shure 1540?

I use grado 325i's occasionally.. They do sound good but are damned uncomfortable.
Last year I acquired a pair of MEZE 99 Classics.
These ones......

They're simply the best I've ever heard over the years and pretty faultless. Full of pizzazz annorl.
Damn nice things to look at and hold too.
Everything is replaceable as well.
Under 300 quid and the build quality is exceptional.
About a million times better than the grados !

I had both Grado 325 and Meze 99

Grado SR325 were too heavy to be comfortable with a very pronounced treble.

Meze 99 Classics look good and sound good. Dynamic and lively sound with effective isolation from outside noise.

Thanks for the replies.
I find Grados uncomfortable for long sessions.
The Meze 99 classic look lovely, and I need to have a look at the B&W.

I use Grado SR325e. Compared them to other makes before buying. Find them detailed and dynamic. No issues about listening for long periods. They had a lot of use last summer in the garden streaming Qobuz from a Chord Mojo.

As I sometimes wear glasses, I find that they push my ears on to the arms, and that my ears become sore after a while.
