Didn't RD mod a pair of B&W's that ended up with DSJR?

This quote from The Doc himself
Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: Sat Nov 10, 2018 12:48 pm I am running my Doc Mod steel lined B&W case point and squirt version of Cube 2, rather nice in many ways but very interesting to switch to semi omni Cube 2, then you get to understand the differences, and it is all to do with the presentation of the music.

I will be able to do a direct comparison for anyone interested for at least a week so anyone want to make the trip to Sidcup ?

Doc had no love for B&W. I think he thought they were the worst company for thinking they were something special when the reality was rather different.

I must admit, I was put off of even trying B&W speakers because of the sheer number of negative comments about the brand on forums. There were always plenty of other brands to try, and perhaps I was just reading the wrong forums.

Apparently B&W are all boom and tizz. Not in my experience. I have two pairs and like both but there are definitely better speakers for me out there. I dont want P&S in your face and i dont want pipe n slippers either. Detail is good but not with too much treble. Trouser flapping bass is also good but not the boomy kind or farting kind.

Excitement, dynamics, transparency, musical..... yes yes yes. Buy the cubes :guiness;

:text-goodpost:

I've not heard CDM 9T's, but I have heard a few B&W speakers over the years. Every time I've been left scratching my head as to why a company with a generally good reputation was able to produce such poor value for money speakers.

Maybe they got away with it because of the Hobson's choice nature of speakers at the majority of hi-fi dealers? Wall to wall slimline ported speakers :angry-screaming: :angry-tappingfoot: :character-spamcan: :crying-yellow: :obscene-moneypiss: :sad-roulette:

Anyway, Cpt.Gapa, I think you'll find it relatively easy to find speakers that you prefer to your B&W's. You might end up with NVA speakers or you might get something else. As others have quite rightly said, do what you can to listen to a few speakers in bake-offs against your 9T's. Even if the bake-off is your own personal 1 person bake-off at home.
