The Cat 6 cable I ordered to connect the phone socket to the hub/router arrived today. Much thicker than the one Sky supplied and not very flexible. I can detect an improvement in SQ, but it is very subtle compared to what the Cat 8 from the hub/router is providing.

Would you not put the cat8 first then the 6 in a hierarchical order????
We have Virgin cable and I just upgraded the coaxial input to router/hub then it’s 20m cat7 to switch box

I don't think there is anything higher than Cat 6 which would link my phone socket to the router and I do not think this connection has the same influence as the ones from router and NAS to streamer.

It's one of those things where there's not much cost or time involved in maxing out your phone socket to router cable.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3SESmJ6W-M

Make your own cable or get a mate with a crimping tool to make you one for the cost of the parts plus a few minutes of his time.

It'd be interesting to see if Cat 7 or Cat 8 cable could fit into an RJ12 plug OK.
The RJ12 plugs that I've seen have all been plastic bodied and would therefore lack the shielding that you'd want in a good Cat 7 or Cat 8 plug.

If you shaved off or burnt off the insulation at the tips of the conducting cores, a thicker gauge of conducting cores would fit into the end channels of the plug.

Then it'd be a case of trimming off the shielding and doing the stretching trick shown in that video.

Been looking at the Apple airport series as an audio grade switch alternate- some heavy reading - was hoping to use the built in storage for music but from what I read it’s not possible/ easy. As I use the Apple TV & iphone I will try one of these and see if it improves upon my current 5 port
switch

Ps - just installed cat8 - love it 😻 AirPlay Spotify is amazing 😉

Don't know if you can find an old iPod Classic but I ran my system for a while using 2 of the 160Gb players and a digital dock from Onkyo, the ND-S1 which took the digital output from the ipod's harddisk and sent it to a DAC.

SQ was really good and a friend of mine is still using this setup very happily.
