Playing music from external HD

Well, that experiment hasn't worked.

Tinkerboard does not appear to like the USB storage device I am trying. I think it would respond to a USB HDD with an external power supply, though.
Still messing about here.

No luck again with a self-powered USB disk.
Might try again tomorrow with a freshly formatted flash drive.

Thanks so much for giving this a ago, I'll know whether or not the Tinkerboard is for me.
gninnam on AA is using a Pi with touch screen monitor, no network or internet required.

Annoying thing is - it should work.

The Tinkerboard with it's own Wifi hotspot and music on a USB HDD. Sounds simple.

The problem seems to be in getting it to recognise the USB storage.
Might have another go.

Result !!!!!!!!!!!!

Formatted a USB flash drive to FAT32

Created partition 'MUSIC'

Copied in folder containing Journey's 'Escape' (music choice is optional according to taste)

Ejected drive properly from Windows

Tinkerboard :

Turn on 'Wireless Networking' and save

Turn on 'Enable Hotspot' and save

Shut down TB

Disconnect ethernet cable and plug in USB drive

Power up TB

On smartphone, search for 'Volumio' network

Connect with password 'volumio2'

USB drive shows up as a source

Access and play 'Don't Stop Believin''

Dance around the room.




Note: may be handy to check that the Hotspot is active before disconnecting from ethernet.
