Irrelevant here, but the other number I find/found useful was 1.73

I like the square root of 2 = 1.414 a practical joke from the great designer in the sky , also when I got my Radio Ham Licence he did it again G8XIV, and again when I worked at Plessey my Stamp number on paper work was PL144.
So I started a company and sold it and the patents called yep you guessed it Root2.

Did you also do:-
Ergs, Dynes, Radiums, Columbs, Theta Curves, Phyton Distortions, Torsion Fields., Tesla, Maxwell, and Coffee by Douwe Egbert.
Late nights study where a killer after a day at work in the Chemy Lab.
Was it 27.3Deg = 1Rad ? A long time since I used them will start studies again. :-?

Some of that, going from college to a night shift wasn't much fun either. When people ask questions about what I say I often have to go and do some research because I have forgotten much more than I remember. I only learned about QAM in the last 20 years but I really can't remember much of the detail, probably because I went from IFE to Electronic logbooks and stopped using it. I can tell you more about ring laser gyros than I can about power supplies and audio amplifiers were back in the 1970s. The last time I used much theory was in relation to a cross channel interference problem on a 747-100, I concluded that the earth wire from the selector panel to the audio accessory box had a high resistance.

Driving a live sound desk once a week isn't exactly guaranteed to keep the brain active on the theory side.

Root 2 is used a lot in photography, aperture stems are based around 1.414 f1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6 etc.

1 simple rule of thumb for 50Hz , 1A on 10,000uf has 1V ripple. So now if the cap is charged to 10V (easy numbers) the ripple at 1A only give us a useful voltage of 9V with out clipping and 100Hz ripple noise. Now if we make a stereo 6.3W/ch what is the current it need from the 10V supply running a 4ohm load, about 3 amps, whoop we now have a 3V ripple and useful voltage of 7W, oh dear it is now not 6.w/ch.
The above is simplified ,
But we were talking about a phono stage that basically 4 op amps.
