There will always big a place in my heart for the humble little Leak Stereo 20. Had loads, just love them.
Never liked the sound of Quad Monoblocks though.
Radford STA25 (and 15) is rather lovely too.
Modded Belles A150 MK2, P90SA, & NVA SSP cables, and LS5.
Leak Stereo 20 & First Audio Classic Copper V2
Modded Lenco GL75 with Saturn arm, heavy custom plinth. Nagaoka MP500.
Nottingham Audio Hyperspace + heavy kit, + Origin Live Conqueror + Koetsu Black
Tom Evans Micro Grove MK2 MC phono
Bluesound Node2i (x2) both with latest power upgrades.
Topping D90MQA and Topping D90SE
Audiolab 6000 CDT transport.
All NVA cables

To me, Classic HiFi means those Japanese amps that had every type of switch, knob, and slider known to man - sometimes on the same amp - and real, backlit, analogue meters. That's HiFi porn to me. If I ever inherited a fortune I'd probably end up with an aircraft hanger full of it.
Stuff that looks like this:

and how can you not drooooooool over this?

The closest I ever came was my first "proper" amp, a Sansui A-40

If this is the ear we’re discussing, then I have a soft spot for the JVC JAS11, JAS22, and 44. The 11 being sweeter sounding. A good solid amp, with lovely tone.

I used to be able to pick these up for £5 on good condition, but prices are on the up, with some people asking £200-£300. You can still get them for £50.

I used to have one spare under the bed to use in an emergency. I’ve given about 10 away over the years, helping friends build their first hifi.

Nothing wrong in going for the looks of equipment, and you can be pretty sure the items shown above will all sound good.
