It may last decades. There is nothing about it pedigree or manufacture that suggests a limited lifespan.

It's a free country, as they say, but you propose that above average earnings and being an enthusiast are mutually exclusive?
Not at all, but I suspect the priorities in choosing equipment change as one goes up into higher, and higher income brackets.

Same with houses, cars, motorcycles and boys toys.
It's all relative. My daughter reckons her £75 'Ultimate Ears' bluetooth speaker is convenient and looks cool. The Rotel Michi buyers seem to have much the same ideas, but with much deeper pockets.

A combined streamer / dac / amp is where you may have to be wary about longevity. If streaming software becomes unsupported, or you can't use a newer 'better' software, then you may end up with a partially defunct item. I don't think the Rotel is a streamer, though, is it?

Nothing in the specification suggests that.

Many years ago they were lower end, many a starter system had a Rotel amp or receiver.

I have a policy of not auditioning something beyond my budget.

Rotel cd players from the 90's are well regarded. Rotel 965BX I think it is called.

I would never had called Rotel "lower end", just because (like most manufacturers, inc NVA) they have a "starter amp" at the bottom of the range.

The Michi preamp does have an ethernet network socket and can be attached as a network audio player.
This suggests that it can be used as a streaming device.
