Compact CDp

Unread post by Latteman »

I’m considering a new CD player- I want a compact size similar to Nva amps so far I’ve found Cyrus quad and possibly Meridian as potential units

I’ve also seen listed on eBay CD players such as Teac, Yamaha etc that are compact but l don’t know much about their pedigree-) I have the option for an external dac)
Anyone got any suggestions on a compact sized CDP, I don’t want a huge investment as cd in my view is more likely to disappear than vinyl now streaming is popular
Cheers Peter

You could find a Sony CDP-S1 that the Doc used to recommend. I have just measured mine for you and it is 305 mm wide x 320 mm deep x 85 mm high. They regularly come up on ebay. No remote though unless you buy the whole La Scala stack.

It sounds good to me, does nothing wrong really. If my modified Naim CD3.5 went tits up I would use it in the main system without hesitation.

I had a Pro-Ject CD Box S for a short while. Sounded nice but the display was faulty - traded it in for my current CXC.

Very small & has remote.

The Rega Apollo is a compact top loader. Known quantity and no drawer to fail. CD isn't about to disappear anytime soon judging by the number of expensive box sets being released and there is a vast existing supply out there in the used mkt.

I have a soft spot for the Meridian line but cheap they are not. A 506 18 bit was my first CDp and my daughter still has it - working as far as I know.

Checked it out- it’s the R version- rare & pricey at £500 used

I remember that Doc also liked Shanling Tempo eC1B CD Player.
