Improve, or just make it different?
I read this with a wry smile. I imagine the majority of us would always say yes to a cost effective audible improvement however given the subjective nature of what constitutes an improvement and what is merely different the debate about this goes on and on and on ad infinitum :epopc:

By definition better must be different from where we started however, different doesn't necessarily mean better.

Different is an intellectual response. Better is an emotional response.

The former can be argued, the latter cannot be denied.

I think DQ is being clear that he wants an improvement rather than a difference. You might have learnt that on an earlier thread ;)
And there lies the problem. How is changing the plinth material going to make an improvement, rather than just being different?

With a device as microphonic as a turntable, it's easy to imagine how a change in plinth material could result in a better overall sound.

It's one of those things that's worth trying if it can be done for not a lot of money.

It may be different, but not necessarily better.
I would politely suggest that the new device I fitted on my turntable would make a bigger difference than changing a wooden plinth from one type of wood to another.

Spamming the Houdini again? Or just trying to pick a fight with DQ? Do you have any experience of Panzerholz as a plinth material or experience of comparing other plinth materials?

Not spamming. I deliberately did not mention the product name.

Yes. I do have experience. It is different, but not necessarily better.

Don't insult us with 6th form semantics, Kev. The thread is about Panzerholz and other plinth materials. If you have first hand experience then share it.

Those nice people at the House of Linn on the edge of Manchester will lighten your wallet to the tune of £1800 for a bespoke bamboo plinth for your LP12 and to my amazement people do buy these " super boo" LP12 plinths. I wouldn't dream of doing that even if I was crazy rich but its their money, their choice and what they do with their money is none of my business.

FWIW I have read most of thread from the link above and to my way of thinking its as inconclusive as it is boring.
