Daevid Allen has left us, but will no doubt continue on his fantastic journey. A man of great positive spirit, dig out his final message, which is posted elsewhere as affirmation of this. His work (play) melted the mind in a most pleasant way. In letting go, I smile and offer thanks..

“..And when old father time rings the chimes of my years
And I see my life turning around me
When you lay me down in your garden my dear
Will you kiss me and let me go lightly?

For a death is so real and so whole and so free
And a body is so frail and so human are we
Are we dreaming?
Is this the earth dreaming too?
Will we live till we die
Wondering why?
Or will we learn to grow
Day, by day, by day”

Excerpt from “Garden Song” by Daevid Allen
From the album “Dreamin’ A Dream” (1996)

I only just found out. What beautiful lyrics...

I found Allen-era Gong truly mad, yet the uplifting, warm and loving Gong vibe has been infused into all who played music with him I think. Steve & Miquette, Pierre, Bloomdido, Tim B to name just a few I know and deeply respect for their music.

Another one to thank from the heart for the music, love (of humanity?) and 'vibe' he spread to so many.. May you glid forever dear sir!
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

John Renbourn, guitarist extraordinaire and founder member of Pentangle has died. Yet another of my guitar heroes gone.

Guardian Obituary

I'll mark his passing here by quoting from what was probably the last interview he did, and remember him with a smile...
Renbourn had an unusual technique whereby he used three fingers on the right and a thumb to the guitar, with filed down pieces of ping pong balls stuck on as artificial nails.

“People tell me I’m living in the dark ages, I’m scorned for using these old ping pong balls,” he told Matthews. “But they work, there’s nothing too much wrong with them - apart from the fact that they’re flammable.”

He did admit that they occasionally fell off. “The Pentangle came out of retirement and we were playing a very big show at the Barbican, and as I was playing, one fell off. I was clever and I had some superglue with me and another one under the chair... I stuck it on, but I didn’t know if the glue was coming out or not, so I bit the top of the superglue, and I stuck my lips together.”

After all, like it or not, she provided the background sound for most of our youfs.
