Hamel sees his work in an intercultural context. His compositions contain a lot of elements taken from around the world and introducing mainly unknown instruments (in our hemisphere) with exciting results.

Peter Michael Hamel 'Colours of Time' (1980)

Drone music. Long-form pieces on organ and synth.
Very similar to Terry Riley's 'In C', Steve Hillage 'Rainbow Dome Musick' and early Klaus Schulze

I had this LP back in the 80's - it vanished into the mists of eternity. :violin:

Suddenly remembered this and some similar LP's by Tim Story.
Just ordered a new copy along with 'Nada' and 'Organum' which was amazing when I heard it on YouTube.

New to me is:

A Triggering Myth 'The Remedy of Abstraction' (2006)

Image

https://lasersedge.bandcamp.com/album/t ... bstraction

Actually I was searching for Michael Manring solo albums, but then this popped up. A Triggering Myth are an American duo (guitars & keys) who released 6 albums between 1990-2006.

This one features a supporting crew of musicians including Manring, whose supple, melodic bass-playing is an important part of the overall sound.

How to describe the style? When I was 13 years old, a schoolmate played me 'Of Queues and Cures' by National Health. After which I expected all 'Rock' albums to sound like that: weird time signatures, manic keyboard flourishes, abstract guitar lines and bizarrely elastic bass-work.

Well, that just about sums up 'The Remedy of Abstraction'. It is an almost entirely instrumental work of jazz-fusion-prog with a heavy Canterbury-scene influence. Instantly reminding me of the likes of Hatfield & the North, National Health and Gilgamesh. And if you like those bands you are sure to enjoy this as well.

Great stuff! :music-listening:

Heavy Mental , New Edge. :music-headbanger:

His final album before he died, far too young, in a road accident.
